Alive and Active Day 2: Engage With The Authors.
Engage with the Authors.
John 20:4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.
Reflection: As you read the Bible you can miss the funny moments that the authors have put into their stories if you only read it verse by verse. Remember the Bible is alive and active, and as you read it, it will make you laugh and it will make you cry. The above verse is found in a pinnacle section of the life of Jesus found in John 20:1-10, Jesus has just died, and the author John is describing the moment that Peter and he find the tomb empty. This is the ‘resurrection’, the most powerful moment in our salvation history, but John being John decides that intertwined in this moment he is going to put a running race between Peter and himself (the beloved disciple). So, as you read this pinnacle moment you get the sense that this typical ‘boy’ has to tell you that he won the running race to the tomb. Read it, it’s hysterical! Today, find the funny moments in the Bible that make you laugh.
Question: What was the last funny moment you read in your Bible?
Prayer: Lord your Word is living and active, I pray that today we would find ourselves reading stories that would make us laugh. Let the authors intention and funny stories come through to us as we engage in this life changing book. Let the joy of the Lord be our strength once again as we find life in your beautiful Word.
