The Heart of an Evangelist | Nicola Gibb
| Nicola Gibb
The heart of the evangelist beats for people! Nothing tastes as good, or nourishes you from the inside out as much as playing your part in seeing someone receive the free gift of salvation.
I believe that the trials and tests we go through in life have the power and ability to help someone else take a step towards God. Your story is for His Glory.
God spent everything He had in order to reconcile the world to Himself. He gave us His precious Son Jesus Christ as payment for our disobedience.
Jesus lay down His life so we could be reconciled to Our Father. He has called us co-workers and friends. Co-labouring in the ultimate goal. To fill Heaven!
Romans 10:13 “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
We are ALL ministers of reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:18-20 “All this is from God, who reconciled the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the ministry of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors as though God were making His appeal through us.”
The salvation of the world depended on Jesus to pay the price and now God is depending on us to get the Good News to all creation. To spend His sacrifice.
John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except through me.”
Soul winning is the food that Jesus talks about in John Four, after He gives us the blueprint for one on one evangelism when He leads the woman at the well into her salvation experience.
John 4:34-35 “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work. Do not say “Four months more and then the harvest? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest!
The most fulfilling thing you can be doing is spending your life on winning people to Christ.
It’s real food. Jesus is the bread of life. The only one that can truly satisfy. He makes you feel full just like fresh bread! Winning someone to Christ is the best tasting bread ever.
I pray I get accused of the same thing that Jesus was accused of, and that is being “a friend of sinners”.
The woman at the well was an “unlikely friend”. I love it when God leads me to an unlikely friend because He gives me a special grace to love and accept that person. To see them through His eyes is such a gift.
It’s God’s priority!
2 Timothy 4:5 But you keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of the evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.”
Jesus has commanded us and empowered us ALL to do the work of the Evangelist. It is part of being a Christian!
It is work!
It will be inconvenient and it will cost you something. It will take you out of your comfort zone. God is calling us to action and He is asking us to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Jesus shows us exactly how to lead someone to salvation in His interactions with the woman at the well.
He was interruptible. The bible tells us He was tired and He sat down at the well. John 4: 6. This is a major key. How often are we in such a rush we miss everyone and everything that’s going on around us? Jesus always had His eyes open on people and was always opening people’s eyes so they would see Him as the Saviour. The Gospel saves. People must have their souls born again.
John 3:5 Unless you are born again you cannot see the Kingdom of Heaven.
He has a word of knowledge about her life to show her that He was using a supernatural prophetic gift. He demonstrated the power of God! John 4:17-19 We need to move in the supernatural gifts God has given us.
He didn’t care about what others thought about Him spending time with a Samaritan woman. He broke tradition to reach a heart. He didn’t judge her. He made her feel like the only one in the countryside! Face to face with her Saviour. When we are with people we should make them feel like they are the only ones that matter.
To be an ambassador or representative for Jesus Christ in your everyday life and know that God Himself is working through you is the highest calling and the greatest adventure we can choose to be part of.
Hearts broken, eyes open and mouth ready to speak!
Mark 16:15 He said to them “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation.”
IT’S GOOD NEWS! Residing in the heart of an evangelist is a deep well of gratefulness. I have found the most effective soul winners to be the ones that realise how much they have been forgiven of.
Luke 7:47 Those who have been forgiven of much love much.
Delivering and communicating the Good News and winning people to Christ is an art that only gets easier with PRACTICE!
More good news! Jesus knows where the fish are!
He has promised that He will make us fishers of men.
Mark 1:17 “Come follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”
If you are a follower then you are a fisherman!
We are not supposed to be perfect at it but if we don’t practise and give it a crack we will never grow in confidence.
Boldness is not loudness and it’s not pushy. It is simply being convinced! We are “On Tour with the Holy Spirit” every day. What an adventure!
The E word should not be scary! In the middle of the word Evangelism is the word “angel”. Angel’s bring Good News! Just be a bringer of good news.
E is for EASY! When the harvest is ripe the fruit comes off easy, it’s just that we need workers.
E is for Encouragement! Encouragement means to put courage in, or perhaps we could view it as depositing faith in people.
E is for Empathy. Jesus was moved by compassion.
E is for Enthusiasm The first thing the woman at the well did after her encounter with Christ was to run into the town and tell everyone.
E is for Eternal. We are caught up in God’s work. What a privilege!
After E is G for GO!
Mark 16: 15 Go into all the world and preach good news to all creation
When you have had an encounter with God’s amazing Grace you cannot keep quiet.
Go the bold! This is a call to action like never before.
Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news
GO and KNOW that God is working through you and in you to bring salvation to the world by sharing your story for His Glory.
I am cheering you on, as is the whole of Heaven!
