The video’s and blog posts are all targeted to help you engage in the book we are reading, to help you get more out of your reading time, to show you topics to look out for, to help you engage with the amazing people you are going to encounter, to equip you to wrestle with the harder topics. The journey we take through the books is not too fast to give you time to really engage with the Bible as you read it, we have put a program together that takes you through the New Testament and Old Testament so that you don’t lose the clarity of the story but you get to experience the different writing styles and topics each year.

I know what your thinking, I don’t even have time to read this blog on Why I should read my Bible! So let me tell you some great things about why we should read the Bible?

Hebrews 4:12 says the Word of God is living and active, Sharper than any double-edged sword, it cuts between soul and spirit.

Your Bible is living and active in your life, and as you read it, it becomes your weapon – a sword to defend you from the enemy, a solid foundation that changes your thoughts, it will reveal to you a solid identity in Christ that you can stand on through any discouragement or fear.

It cuts between soul and spirit – what does that mean? It means it will stop your mind, will and emotions ruling your life and allow the Spirit of God to lead you into a life of truth and power.

2 Timothy 3:16 says all scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The Bible is God-breathed, he is constantly talking through these incredible books. Just look at the red text in the gospels, this is Jesus talking, training us, helping us, guiding us. In Old Testament God is constantly talking, if you feel like you can’t hear the voice of God – read your Bible and he will speak to you through it.

2 Timothy also says it useful for training – some of us are studying to upskill ourselves for our jobs, we know that if we train we will get better at what we do. You read books to be a better mother, gardener, cook, you watch videos to help you do your hair, help with your business.  Just the same for Christians, the Bible is our training manual, it transforms our lives, changes us. If you want to be upskilled in your Christian walk get into the Bible.

If you've ever felt that life is overtaking you rather than you overcoming it – as you the read the Bible you will be equipped for every good work. It will empower you to life your Christian life in strength and wisdom. If I could get a weekly Podcast from Paul, I would devour them! In reading my Bible I get to sit at his feet and listen to his life teaching on salvation, grace. You get to sit at the feet of the most incredible prophets and learn from their heart and passion, Isaiah, Jeremiah. These are the most incredible lessons, life lessons from incredible men and women of God.

Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path

Some of you are stumbling around life and not sure why, the Bible is a lamp for your feet, it will light your path to breakthrough, to healing, to seeing victory in your family and homes.

John 8:31-32 If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

How do you know a counterfeit note, you study the real thing so you know it so well that you cannot be deceived when someone tries to give you a fake one.

Another great thing is you don’t have to read the Bible without help, John 14:26 says But the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name. He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

Ask the Holy Spirit to be your tutor as you read the Word of God, he will teach you, show you what you need to know, help you change your thoughts, and remind you of everything that Jesus has said when you need it the most.

As Christians it is great to get into the Bible so we know the truth of what we believe, we know Jesus so no-one can lead us astray – we can say no sorry I have spent hours with him reading his life stories and in prayer, I know him. We have spent hours at the feet of Paul listening to him show us how Jesus changes our lives, the Bible has renewed our thinking to know the truth, when the enemy tries to tell me that I am worthless, the words of the Bible jump into my head ‘I am fearfully and wonderfully made’ and that is my truth! If we are not putting it in, how do you expect it to jump out at you when you need it the most.

So why start the Trash Your Bible journey, because it is allowing the power of God’s words into our lives to change us, to build us up, it is our protein powder every morning or our warm milk to calm us at night. It is our sword against the enemy and a light to stop us from stumbling. You will fall in love with Jesus and He will change your life. You will love being in the living and active Word of God, that is empowering you to live your life for Christ and glorify him.

So have fun reading your Word, this is a lifestyle not a fad!
