As you journey through Genesis and Exodus, have you noticed the language that is used for the Israelites’ relationship with God? Language is really important in the Bible and once we start to recognise the way it is used, it will bring our Bible reading to a whole new level.

As we venture into Exodus, I want to explain to you the term ‘monotheism’, which might help you understand not only the Israelite community but God’s call for consecration and Jesus’ single-mindedness when it came to other religions and gods.

Have you noticed God's holy protection over the Israelites throughout the Book of Exodus? And it begins before the Red Sea. Throughout the plagues, there are these obscure sentences that are easily missed, so let me take you back and show you the thread of ‘holy protection’ over the Hebrews throughout the Book of Exodus.

How incredible would it have been to see a mountain shaking?! Or in the Hebrew, ‘Käl-hähärm'od’ (the whole mountain trembled exceedingly). Hyperbole or not, the image conjured in this narrative recount is awe-inspiring!

As we venture through the Bible, some might find it odd that we are introducing the study of Christ (Christology) here in the Old Testament. Isn’t the first appearance of Jesus found in the New Testament? To this question, I would say ‘Maybe’!
