As we journey through the books of the Bible together, we thought we would have a ‘creative break’ every now and then to delve into the incredible hymns in the Book of Psalms. If we read all of these incredible poems in one hit, I think we might miss some of the images and metaphors that the book contains.

Psalms, one of the five poetry books of the Old Testament, provides helpful insight for us with where our society is today because it identifies with what a lot of Christians experience who don’t know how to process or respond to their circumstances without feeling inadequate or disqualified.

The army was ready, fierce, full of fight and anger, ready to go into battle! They had been marching together for days and with every day they marched, their anger and determination increased. With such power and strength in their ranks, there was no thought of defeat. They were so close, they had entered Judah and now it was time to conquer their enemy. But as they entered, they heard it, the weirdest sound an army could hear, and the most terrifying sound that this enemy had ever heard.

There are so many ideas that one can explore within the psalms that it would be hard to pin one down in a deep dive and think that it was sufficient. Instead, we are going to look at some tools that will help sharpen our minds when reading the psalms so that we can understand them for all their worth.
