When you begin to read the Song of Songs, if you dare to venture into it at all, you may feel shocked and begin to question, how is this in the Bible? Is this allowed to be discussed in the Bible? Aren’t we the ‘love’ police? Aren’t we the ones telling people to control themselves, control their desires – keep it clean people!

No other book in the entirety of the Bible has roused such a plethora of interpretations like the Song of Songs. This book has been a source of contention for centuries, however its value and significance to the overall Jewish and Christian life has also been challenged with little consensus.

Right from the beginning, the opening verse of Song of Songs sets the foundation for the entire book; ‘The song of songs, which is Solomon's’ (KJV). This primer tells us three things: firstly, that it is a song, secondly it is the greatest song because the title ‘Song of Songs’ is the Hebrew way of communicating a superlative through alliteration, meaning that by repeating the word ‘song’, they are saying that this is the most superior song.
